About Barry Keating

Barry KeatingBarry Keating is a multi-talented writer, composer and director. Barry has pursued a wide-ranging career that has consistently appealed to both audiences and critics.

In addition to writing the music, lyrics and co-authoring the book for the 6-time Tony Nominated Starmites, Mr. Keating composed the score and co-wrote the book and lyrics for a Gospel/ Hip-Hop/ Rock adaptation of The Jungle Book that was staged at the New Victory Theater on 42nd Street in 1997.  The critically acclaimed musical toured nationally and was praised for it's innovate style and charm.

He wrote book, music and lyrics for Jim Hensonís Muppet Babiesí Magic Box, a multi-media, live-action extravaganza which toured Canada and the U.S. in the Ď80s. His cabaret, Hollywood Opera, played several years in New York, and was nominated for a Mac Award in 1992. His recycling musical, The Garbage Can-tata, was performed throughout New York City schools, and was filmed by the United Nations for its Ecological Festival.

As a director, Mr. Keating directed Penn & Tellerís first stage show, and Jim Steinmanís Neverland (the rock musical which spawned Meat Loaf/Bat Out of Hell) at the Kennedy Center. He is an honors graduate from Amherst College, and is the author of four childrenís books for Jim Henson and the Muppets.
